Cat on a hot neon tube

Che Guava got himself in trouble when he was three days old...
A little kitty cat out in the cold...
We found him with eyes that had never opened..
The tiny thing looked tough though.. and no his soul wasnt broken.

He was stuck.. his neck caught in a wild wild mesh
And there was blood.. his wounds .. egad.. they were fresh....
And just as we disentangled his scrawny neck from the fence
He tumbled into a box of carbon black in defence ..

Gosh... he is a fiesty one .. stupid kitty cat
Atchoo... he sneezed, now camouflaged as a rat
His rugged little soul made me laugh
Boy i thought... this ones going to grow up to be tough

Just then a chill went up my spine
And that's when I started to worry bout the feline
Memories flooded in and I started to fret
I didn't want to cry for another kitty death...

And the good Lord knows i have seen my share of those
And i couldn't help wondering if he would end with the help of his foes
As my negativity crept up my soul
I realized i couldnt bear to dig another hole.

And then it happened he said his first word
And twitched his whiskers and then he purred
Sigh... big sigh.. bigger sigh... animal instinct...
He came home... with carbon black and hoodwinked...

Mum adjusted her glasses and she proceeded to stare like a hawk
At the little black thing in a cardboard shoe box
And just as her eyeballs aligned like they should
She yelped a little , and jumped back, as high as she could.

"Are you out of your mind, bringing home a rat?"
She yelled, and then I clarified that it was only a little cat
She turned red in her face and started to scream , yell and curse
"It's bad enough I take care of you... I am NOT going to be a cat nurse"

With that the banishing banshee stormed out the door
But even banshees have motherly instincts at their core
Oh well, time for the kitty kat sponge bath...
Atchoo... oh no... i felt my negativity start...

Maybe pneumonia?...maybe a common cold.? something worse?...
Maybe its not that serious .. and i need not fuss
And thats when i realized my brain needed control
I took him out of the box and i dunked him into a bowl

I washed and scrubbed the little wriggly body
While he caterwauled unhappily , all frothy
I then proceeded to vacuum perpetrators from his fur coat...
And then blow dry and hair dry him .. he took it like a sport

Fed him milk with a dropper ...applied a cream on his cut
And then wrapped him in a old tee and made sure it covered his butt.
The hair dryer was switched on and it worked like a hearth
And he started to snore in his sleep and even let out a fart.

Eventually... he grew up..learned to walk... and to see...
To crawl up people's shoulders...and purr like a bee
Sometimes in my jacket hood you'd find him asleep...
Sometimes from dad's pocket, you could see him peep...

Then he grew and grew ..bigger and bigger
A shiny golden coat, admirable figure..
Along with his figure, grew his terrible brain
And he decided to conquer some terrain

He started with me bed and took over with such ease,
Stretched himself out, nope, he didn't say please
And then he proceeded to conquer the throne
In front of the tv, meant for my dad's backbone alone

And thats when I knew this cat's pure evil
Dad looked at him and gave up the chair of complete free will
Hah! so the cat knew how to play cute...
Well the banishing banshee would still frown upon that brute,

Atleast thats what I thought when I saw him climbing up the fridge
Instead of a hurling rolling pin, he was offered oat porridge
And I was surprised to discover that that's not all he scored
When mum read in the afternoon, he cosied upto her and snored

I guess I have to hand it to the ball of golden brown
Nature intended for him to have his crown
As for the banshee who had refused the stray
her motherly instincts , I guess, finally gave way

Che, whose agenda now is figuring out if he can fly
is always climbing something or the other to reach the sky
so he climbs and climbs..and shows off at every height
That's my cat, Che, on the hot neon tube light...

oh well...
:)

An Ode to Che....
